This is a demo reel of our STATERA Anamorphic 50mm T2.2, 75mm T2.2, and 100mm T2.2 paired with the new ARRI ALEXA 265. These are the focal lengths we feel perform best with the 65mm format sensor of the 265. We shot Open Gate and cropped to a final traditional 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

These lenses were originally designed with Full Frame, Large Format, Vista Vision sensors in mind. However, these 3 focal lengths happened to work well with the 265, so we wanted to explore that. Because of the larger sensor, we are seeing to the very edges of what the lenses can project onto the sensor. So there is a bit more falloff, and more swirl and “cat’s eye” effect to the bokeh, especially when the iris is wide open.

The goal of this video is to show performance and character at multi T stops, close focus performance, distortion, bokeh character, focus breathing, and of course, lens flares. A Rec 709 LUT was applied. No sharpening. No manipulating the footage.

We are obsessed with STATERA Anamorphics. As you can see, their character is inspired by vintage anamorphic lenses. But these are new optical designs, in new modern housings, with excellent reliable mechanics, and impressive close focus. We feel that they are some of the most beautiful anamorphic lenses out there, and one of the few sets that work with ALEXA 265. As you can see the 1.5x squeeze gives you so much classic anamorphic character, while giving you the flexibility when it comes to your camera’s sensor and your project’s aspect ratio.
