Welcome to the Fervent Flourishing Life Podcast. I’m Ashley Faulkenberry and I’m really excited to be here with you today.
So what is something you like to do to start off the year?
Do you like to set goals for the year or choose a theme word for the year?
Do you like to start the year by fasting and praying?
Does your family have any traditions for ringing in the new year?
This year my theme word is trust, which I think is an appropriate word for this next year, because this is a season of transition for me.
Last year my word was flourishing, which I think is ironic because last year God lead me to write a book called A Fervent Flourishing Life.
God taught me a lot about what true biblical flourishing is last year and I was able to see more clearly how I’m flourishing in every area of my life: spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially.

True biblical flourishing is not about having everything you need to live life comfortably and conveniently.
The world defines flourishing in terms of your achievements, having good overall health, and how you contribute to society.
According to the Bible, if you focus only on this it will eventually lead to your destruction: Proverbs 11:28 & Psalm 92:7
True biblical flourishing is not rooted in your accomplishments and worldly possessions. True biblical flourishing is rooted in having a relationship with God. Matthew 6:19-21, 24
In order to experience true biblical flourishing you have to invest in your relationship with God.
Second, true biblical flourishing leads to transformation: Romans 12:2 & Isaiah 32:15-18
Not only will true biblical flourishing lead to transformation, but it will also lead to fruitfulness, peace, security, and restoration.
Another passage that talks about flourishing that I like is Psalm 92:12-14.
Your potential for experiencing true biblical flourishing begins the day you become a follower of Christ, but choosing to become a Christian, going to church, reading the Bible, and praying does not mean that you are flourishing in the way that God desires for you to flourish. It requires you to cooperate with the Holy Spirit: Galatians 5:25.
Too often as Christians we forget about the Holy Spirit and the work of the Holy Spirit, but if you want to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, flourish in every area of your life, and be restored you can’t forget about the Holy Spirit.
There are things that can hinder you from flourishing in the way God desires for you to flourish, which is why it’s necessary for you to take care of not only your spiritual health but also your mental and physical health.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
2 Corinthians 11:3
So would you say that currently you are doing a good job at taking care of your spiritual, mental and physical health or would you say that you tend to prioritize one over the others?
Our mental health plays a key role in our sanctification. Sanctification is the process of being transformed and conformed to the image of Christ Jesus, and part of the sanctification process is renewing our mind with the guidance of the Holy Spirit so we can be transformed by the Holy Spirit and flourish.
As we conclude our time together today I want to encourage you to spend some time in prayer, reflecting on your own life and what flourishing looks like in your life.
