Exploring the STREETS OF SINGAPORE, one street at a time. For this walking tour, we are started our walk at the WHAMPOA DRAGON FOUNTAIN. It was completed in late 1973, and was originally situated in a playground in a large park behind Block 85 in Whampoa, Singapore. The dragon structure was made from broke China rice bowls. In 1985, it was later moved inwards in front of Block 85 due to the construction of the Central Express Way.
From Whampoa, we continued the walking tour to the DRAGON PILLAR at TOA PAYOH Lorong 3, in front of Block 91. Built in the 1960s when the swamplands of Toa Payoh was transformed into a public housing estate. The estate drew inspiration from Le Corbusier's concept of a satellite town where besides housing structures, the town included all the primary and secondary amenities needed to sustain and grow a town. At the fringes of the estate, light industrial factories were also included.
