Crowley (1875 – 1947) was a poet, novelist, philospher, ceremonial magician and infamous occultist. He founded the religion Thelema and was – according to some – recruited in to the British Secret Services. He remains a controversial figure to this day. Nicknamed The Beast, he revelled in controversy.
