This sermon is part of a series of sermons by Dr. Thompson on the topic of the Letters to the Churches of Revelation. [Sermon Notes Below]
Sermon #2652, Recorded January 10, 1989
----------------------------------
Partial Sermon Summary:
Opening Passage: Revelations 3:18-22
Among other things, Dr. Thompson talks about...
"Those whom I love, I reprove...": If the Lord loves you, He will correct and reprove you. Expect correction. Christians are perhaps the most undisciplined group of people in the world.
Pastor speaks of discipline and endorses the book "This Present Darkness" by Frank Peretti.
Mahanaim: The double camp. The angelic army that fights alongside the natural army.
The Ten Commandments is an indictment against Satan himself. This is what went before Israel as they entered the Promised Land.
Freedom is not necessary, when it comes to holiness. You could be a slave, and be holy, just as easily as you could be "free" but a slave to lusts or addictions.
Pastor talks of the great end-time battle.
God is more concerned with removing sin from the earth than He is in people "believing" things and meeting in church buildings. He's coming to the earth, the church isn't going to Heaven. Jesus returns to call His Saints to Him, to invade the earth and drive out the devil and sin. We must be under flawless discipline, as the angels are.
He talks of Paul saying that he was crucified with Christ, nevertheless he lived, but it wasn't him, it was Christ living in him. True unity with Jesus (like Paul talked about) will make you fearless.
He talks about election, and the idea that God calls out one here and one there, by His own criteria, and turns them into a Stick in His Hand - a Weapon He will use to cleanse the world of evil. Vessels of extreme discipline and obedience.
We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. This is why discipline is necessary.
When we break discipline in our own lives, it affects the rest of your family, and your church, and the hands of the men of war around you. When you keep strict discipline, it strengthens those around you, including the angels around you.
