After the baccalaureate, the young French students decide what they want to study. The majority of them go to the University where they usually remain until they get a Master's degree. French universities are free, including the universities of medicine and law. Medical studies are the longest, they last more than 9 years. While other universities do not require students to pass an exam, medical students must pass a very difficult exam at the end of the first year to continue their studies.
