Here is a rap about Al Copeland, the founder of Popeyes and Copeland's, from the 90's. Please don't send any hate. It was ripped from a VHS so the quality is so-so.
This is a dedication, to Al Copeland the Chicken King.
Sit back and relax and let me tell you a little something.
The man had a dream.
To open a business that was nice and clean.
Good food, good service and a place to sit.
A New Orleans native who was very legit.
Started out in Arabi in '72.
He called it Popeyes, it was something brand new.
The name really rung a bell
And when you tasted the chicken you could surely tell.
That he was sitting on a gold mind.
He didn't waste no time, that's why I wrote this rhyme.
Went from rags to riches.
He stood out from the rest.
The competition was little, Al Copeland's the best.
Donated to charity, most definitely.
Over a million and ten to the muscular dystrophy.
Als on a spending spree.
He even feeds the cops for free.
And don't forget around Christmas time.
He got the children with smiles, bright as the sunshine.
Over three hundred thousand worth of lights would shine on each Christmas night.
We mean it and we're proud, Al Copeland The Chicken King
Our local Hero.
Al we love you and we love that chicken from popeyes. Al we love you and we love that chicken from popeyes.
The man is humble and honest, he does it from the heart.
Smart from the start. He is number one on the charts.
The boat racing team is surely in effect.
They won a lot of races and showed the most respect.
Down to earth, whatever he said he meant.
A true fella with class who was flamboyant.
Later on, people started assuming,
Along comes a restaurant that was booming.
Copeland's.
Yea, I thought you knew.
That's its own restaurant with a nice setting for two.
Exotic cars, the Lamborghinis were nice and clean.
He has taste because he is from New Orleans.
From boats to cars, fancy houses, and planes,
The Popeyes chain number one,
He remains a true citizen,
With fame and glory.
Copeland himself could write a novel or story
On the slice down
Or the way that he sprung up.
He brung up and rung up
Over a billion bucks and you can see that he got the job done. Taught one of the best Copeland Jr., his son.
So, Al Copeland, you remain our pro,
The Chicken King of New Orleans,
Our local hero.
Al we love you and we love that chicken from Popeyes. Al we love you and we love that chicken from Popeyes.
