Few leaders in Assyrian history are as revered or controversial as the late Patriarch of the Church of the East, Mar Eshai Shimun. Consecrated to the patriarchy at the tender age of 12, and tossed into the struggles of the Middle East, he was forced to lead a movement from his exile, before resigning and then becoming a victim of an assassination by the son of one of his supporters. In this class, we carefully examine the life and death of Mar Eshai Shimun.
