Affordable DIY fence gate repair/replacement. Old fence gate has rotted away. The cedar post is very old and we didn't want it to take too much concentrated load from new hinges, so we attached a new piece of 2x6 to take the load. The old hinges were not in desirable positions, and they were double ended shared hinges with the neighbours. We wanted to make a lightweight gate that can hopefully outlast the old one. Part 1/2 - Showing you how to cut half laps for the fence gate to construct the main gate body.
