JAVA RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT is the software required to run any application deployed on Java Platform.
JRE is a combination Of :-
1. The Java Virtual Machine [JVM ]
The Java Virtual Machine is at the Heart of Java’s Platform.
It emulates a Java processor on the CPU the hast machine.
How is JVM Put to use ?
JVM can be used as follows:
I. Execute Java Applets
II. Execute Server-side java program
III. Run stand-alone Java application
JVM is composed of the following two components:
A. Class loader :- Loads the .class files
B. Execution Engine:- Use the above data structure and convert the byte code instructions

2. Supporting files[APIs]
Java contains server predefined classes that are grouped into packages based on their functionality.
How is java API put to use ?
A Java Program calls the methods of the Java API.
The methods available in the classes of the Java API communicate with the underlying operating system to perform the required actions.
