How to work with Luminosity Masks in Photoshop CC

Step 1: Hold own the Command key (Mac or Ctrl key (PC) and click on the RGB channel to load the Luminosity values of the RGB file.
Step 2: Add a Curves adjustment layer and click and drag the center of the curve up to lighten the midtones and highlights.
Step 3: Option-Click (Mac) Alt-Click (PC) on the layer mask to view the Luminosity mask.
Step 4: Use a Levels adjustment to increase the contrast of the layer mask - Command+L (Mac) Ctrl+L (PC).

Top Tip: Invert the layer mask (Command/Ctrl+I) if you want to protect the tonal values of the Highlights instead of the Shadows.
