(oops, sorry for the lack of sound in the GTA III section, it's fine from VC onwards).
Another Jewel in the wild.
These games are legendary. If you're looking to recapture some of the best moments in gaming that existed before battle passes, subscriptions and microtransactions, this way lies the answer.
What else can i say?
Ah, yes...when these games landed on the scene, the PS2 exploded to life.
GTA III was literally the first Grand Theft Auto game that i played, i had seen the PS1 GTA's but i couldn't get onboard with the birds-eye view, which is a bit strange because on the Megadrive, i used to like the Micro Machines games.
But it was so captivating, we'd seen nothing like it at the time, a massive city to explore and it was amazing. There was so much to absorb and take in.
Couple of years passed and we would be blessed with the arrival of Vice City, I thought they really captured the mood of the 80's in that one and it improved on GTA III substantially, we had bikes!
Then came the peak...
The date was 26 October 2004 and the new kid on block became that of GTA : San Andreas
This was where R* knocked it out of the park!! There we were thinking that Vice City was epic and indeed it was. But San Andreas raised the bar even further.
All of a sudden we had various mini-games we could partake in, including playing pool with friends, which was awesome! like a game within a game. The map was gigantic compared to its predecessor and there was a gazilliion new vehicles to check out, we could make our character fat or skinny, acquire new fighting moves, customize our clothing, mod our cars, give them nitro and so much more, we even had fighter jets in the form of the Hydra.
That game exceeded all of our expectations and by far it was one of the best titles out there on PS2.
It was so good that it broke records on it's 1st week of sales, fast foward 1 month from release, the reports flooded in, an estimated 677,000 copies were sold in the 1st weekend alone and this had marked GTA on the map for good.
That's hardly surprising because R* back then was focused on excellence and the quality/length of the game showed. It really did set a completely new standard for the industry and gave the players some of the best moments in gaming history that imho wouldn't be topped until GTA V (disregarding how they monetized it)
When GTA IV released, that too was an amazing step up in terms of graphical fidelity and the capability of the game's engine, but it was technically a smaller game, thus i had more of a fondness for San Andreas, i thought hands down it was just an objectively better game, it plainly just had more content and things we could do.
And so, there we go.
A nice look at these beauties from an era past but never forgotten! The price on this collection kicks arse, for like £30 you literally get all 3 games in an upgraded form.
The texures have been touched up and they look really good, upgraded lighting FX and the option is still there to use classic aiming controls, but its nowhere near as good as manual aiming /w aiming assist.
Nice addition really and it breathes new life into III/VC - My only complain is the locked at 30fps framerate, seems a bit strange to have them locked in that state because the Switch is more than capable of 60fps+ with these titles in the very least. It's not a world-ending event though.
Upside : recording at 30fps saves loads of space for creating content and isless taxing on hardware.
Highly recommended! Peace out mah dudes, In a bit!
