The Catholic Church dedicated its 146th anniversary Mass to pray for detained former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, Obeid Lutale, and other detainees who are still behind bars, despite an order for them not to be tried by the General Court Martial. The Mass, held to celebrate the arrival of the first Catholic missionaries, Fr. Simeon Lourdel and Brother Amans Delmas, on February 17, 1879, took place at Kigungu in Entebbe, where they first arrived. Led by the Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Semogerere, the faithful appealed to the government to be considerate and free Dr. Kizza Besigye so that he could access the much-needed specialized medical care.
