Doctor's ban from high-risk surgery is 'pretty ludicrous'

Neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo says “the whole situation” regarding his ban to operate in high-risk surgery in Australia for 15 months by the Medical Council of New South Wales is “pretty ludicrous”.
“The trouble is, unfortunately, there are Australian patients that want surgery or need my surgery, (and) can’t get my services unless they go overseas,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith.
Dr Teo was placed under Class C restrictions, whereby he would have to receive permission from a fellow neurosurgeon to operate on difficult cases.
“One problem is that no one has agreed to be that supervisor,” he said.
“Even though executives have welcomed me, other neurosurgeons and other doctors have blocked that credentialling process.
“The end result is that I can’t practise in Australia.”
