Hemming an accordion-style dress requires special attention due to the pleats. Measure how much you want to shorten the dress and mark it with pins or tailor's chalk.
Trim the Excess Fabric: Once the pleats are securely pinned, carefully trim the excess fabric along the hemline, leaving about a half inch for seam allowance. Pin folded hem in place. The hem should be about a quarter of an inch (depending on the fabric).
Select the appropriate need for your fabric and sew carefully removing pins as you sew.
After sewing, press the hem lightly, using a pressing cloth to avoid flattening the pleats.
This process helps preserve the accordion pleats while achieving a clean and professional hem.
