This mini-documentary about home deliveries that were once available in ’Sconset was produced for the 2008 exhibition ’Sconset 02564 at the Nantucket Whaling Museum. It includes excerpts from a series of oral histories of ’Sconset residents conducted by the NHA in 1976 and 2007 along with archival video and photos on the topic.
In this video, Elizabeth Gibbs (1896–1996) recalls her grandfather’s farm and how he catered to the ‘Sconset Actors Colony, delivering fresh milk and vegetables, prepared broiler chickens, and flowers. Joan Pennock Craig (1920–2011) remembers Harry Dunham delivering milk; Mr. Jernigan, the ice man; and Portuguese workers delivering freshly-picked blueberries. Linda Holland (1939–) recalls, "There was a man who would come and light the coal stove because my mother wouldn't deal with it." And Bob Longley (1932–2013) remembers home deliveries from the market.
