My 7 week old is constipated. The doctor's advice helps, but not permanently. What can I do?

You mentioned that you have a 7 week old baby girl who's had some issues with constipation, and you called the pediatrician, which was the right thing to do. They recommended some advice, and you tried it, and it worked. But you're finding that she needs stimulation every time to go to the bathroom, and she hasn't gone since you followed your pediatrician's advice. And I do recommend calling them again and letting them know, because this might be a quick fix, but your doctor might want to look into other reasons why she's not going.
Generally speaking, a baby that's drinking breast milk might have 8 to 12 bowel movements a day, and a formula fed baby will usually have at least 1 a day. So at the very least, your baby should probably be having at least 1 bowel movement a day. But later on, when your baby is 3 months old, sometimes they go 5 to 7 days without a bowel movement, and it's because they're growing so rapidly that there's just not much waste. They're using every single drop to grow. It definitely sounds, though, like your baby isn't going as frequently, and so again, I recommend calling your pediatrician, and they can decide if further investigation or treatments are necessary. Good luck with everything, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at / intermountainmoms , and recommend us to your friends and family too.
