LED ZEPPELIN FULL SHOW PLAY ALONG - SOUTHAMPTON 1973

Описание: I decided to challenge myself and try to play a whole Zep show, without retakes, straight through. Just playing in the moment, warts and all...much like I would often do over the years. I chose this show because it's a very clear recording and it's the 48th anniversary of the concert. Plant's voice was very rough at this time, he was ailing from a bad winter cold, but the band play great , and Bonham in particular is on fire (as usual).

The purpose here isn't to play every song note for note, but improv in the spirit of the music - listening, reacting, responding. That said, I did memorize some key fills/sections because I didn't want them to stand out and clash too much. I left the cameras running straight through and played in real time. The only song I had to redo was actually the very last song, Communication Breakdown. Just after I started it , the beater came off the pedal so I had to pause and re-attach the beater. LOL. But this was uncut. I made some edits and took out a few drum - less parts like Rain Song, Dazed bow solo, Stairway beginning etc.

There are many little mis-steps, adjustments...and it was especially hard to keep the beat in the fast solo section of Dazed- hard to hear the time clearly! That got slippery for a minute! So please pardon the little fluctuations and errors...but that's part of the spontaneity of playing along!

Since the pandemic, with music venues closed throughout the world, I went from playing an average of 4-5 gigs a week, sometimes many more in a row, to almost nothing. That's like 15 hours or more a week of not playing the drums. Needless to say, it takes a toll on your chops, stamina, and flow. While I have been practicing , it's just not the same as actual playing and the energy output required mentally and physically when playing a show.That's one big reason I wanted to attempt this. I made it through , but it was a monster....especially when I got to the fast section of Dazed! That's when I realized it was only half over!! The aftermath was my forearms felt like jello, my hands had four nice new blisters, and I broke 4 sticks! It was super fun and exhilarating though, and it made me want to do another show again! I have some ideas! 😃
