To find the central idea of a text, think of it as the main dish at a restaurant. And just as a food critic would use the main dish to write a review of the restaurant, determining the main idea in a text and identifying the details that support that main idea can help us write great summaries of texts. This educational video explains what a central idea is and how to find it in a text.
