Getting Horse to Jump a Scary Downed Tree- Trail Sacking Out- Horse Confidence

Описание: #thinklikeahorse #ItIsNeverTheHorsesFault While trail riding we came across this large tree that looked scary and the horse tried to avoid the tree as we walked by, so we decided to help our horses get over their fear and build our horse's confidence by showing them and helping them get over the scary log / tree. When I said the praise part about me not doing that was directed to timing. When you stop and praise a horse you lose focus, you confuse the horse and you stop focusing on what you want, so the horse sees that as lack of direction and that tends to create confusion and the horse thinks he is done and then wants to leave and find comfort. I want pressure and good constant direction on a horse so they are clear on what I want and only ONE right answer, stopping and praising messes up that message. BTW (by the way) this was pretty advanced since we were on a steep hill so it was not level ground and the horse was going over down hill to the ground on the other side of the log was a lot further away. This would have been easier if we did this on level ground but, the easy way is not always the best way. It depends? It depends on horse, on rider, past experience of both, confidence of both and other factors. I like a challenge and something that is too easy is not fun. Which is why no plays tic tac toe very much. If you want easy, take lessons from knowitall barn people that will have you riding in circles in an arena where you will safer.. I SAID SAFER NOT SAFE. Safe is relative, some think in a arena with a helmet makes them safe, I think understanding and trusting your horse is safe. It is up to you.

It would have been easier and faster to just avoid or go around the tree, but being Horsemen, we do not want to let our horses off with fast and easy, with horses the fast way is almost always the wrong way. So we took the time it took and make our horses and ourselves better.

The Horse I was riding was Sunny and he is a about 7 years old. The other horse is Gina and she is about 12. The two horses are kept in pasture and are buddies so they found comfort by being together and sometime one would lead and some time the other would lead. Both great horses and gave us both, Me and Dave, a really good ride.
