The person you fell in love with and loved through all kinds of abuse from your BPD Significant Other (SO) is not who you thought they were. It's still traumatic to realize this loss because yes, they had wonderful qualities and you fell in love with them but the best qualities of those with BPD are fragmented and present inconsistently after the person with BPD gets too close to you and abandonment fear rises. People with BPD do not know who they are and they try to live through you and then they experience you as the wounding parent and you suffer that loss along with not having your love reciprocated. In fact, husbands or wives (girl/boy friends) with Borderline Personality Disorder will end up abusing you because you love them.
