Today's word of the day is 'blimey.' Blimey is an exclamation. It is used informally and while it is a little old-fashioned it is still popular today as it’s politer than using some more ‘colourful’ expressions.
It is used to show surprise or amazement at something.
It was being used in British English by 1889 and is a corruption of “(God) blind me!”. One dictionary referred to it as a term of abuse, with no obvious meaning! It came to be mainly used in London as part of the longer, ‘Cor blimey.’
