Electrolysis to remove rust for restoration of tools and parts.
Hopefully this will show you how easy and accessible the process of electrolysis is for the removal of rust (not hair removal, I don't need any more of that). It's not exactly a 'how to’ but will show you what you need and what you can expect. I think it can be quite daunting to mix liquids and electricity so this will show that anyone can do it and easily clean up old tools or parts with little or no effort; both of these examples took 6 hours without any input and then less than a minute with some wire wool.
I used a 4 amp charger but I've seen it suggested that a 6 amp supply would be better.
In these examples I used a 2% solution; 10 litres of water to 20 grams of soda crystals.
The plane I found in alleyway behind our house a few months back and I found the chisel in the garden while digging.
I'm not sure what I'd use the chisel for now but the plane was functional straight after the electrolysis without sharpening (though it does really still need a good sharpen).
