In today’s video scenario, we imagined a situation where you want someone to quickly clean up a messy room. In the first situation, by using ‘ささっと’ (sasatto), you politely request the other person to tidy up the room quickly in a casual manner. However, in the second situation, using ‘さっさと’ (sassato) takes on a demanding tone, closer to giving an order. Saying, ‘Clean up this mess right now,’ comes across as quite demanding, leading the other person to respond with annoyance, ‘If you’re in such a hurry, why don’t you do it yourself?’

When you want someone to act promptly, it’s more appropriate to use ‘ささっと’ (sasatto) instead of ‘さっさと’ (sassato). For example, when you’re hungry, asking a friend, ‘ささっと何か作ってくれる？’ (Sasatto nanika tsukutte kureru?) is acceptable, but using ‘さっさと’ (sassato) can be perceived as rude, so be mindful of your choice of words!
