Next-Generation Lyocell Filament Innovation - CELLFIL project

Описание: The textile industry is at a turning point. As pressure mounts to reduce environmental impact, the shift from fossil-based synthetic fibers to circular, bio-based alternatives is accelerating across Europe.

CELLFIL is a Horizon Europe project driving the next generation of sustainable textiles through the development of advanced Lyocell filament yarn: a wood-based cellulosic fiber pioneered by Lenzing.

Produced from sustainably sourced wood pulp using a resource-efficient closed-loop process, Lyocell filament already represents a major step toward circularity. CELLFIL takes this innovation further by incorporating 25% alternative feedstocks, such as orange peels and textile waste, reducing reliance on virgin raw materials.

The project brings together 15 partners from research and industry to:

• Advance the performance of Lyocell filaments
• Optimize processing technologies across the value chain
• Validate production at industrial scale
• Develop viable business models for market uptake

CELLFIL is targeting high-performance applications including sportswear, automotive textiles, and technical rubber reinforcements, proving that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand.

By integrating recyclability into product design and conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), the project supports a measurable transition toward a circular textile economy.
