This video shows the process of installing precast concrete curbstones used to separate sidewalks and road edges.
Each concrete block is carefully placed on a mortar base, aligned for level and straightness, then securely fixed.
It may look simple, but this job requires precision, experience, and real construction skills.
The Bedding Layer: A semi-dry mortar base is spread before placement. This allows the mason to "set" the heavy precast block at the exact required height, providing structural support while allowing for minor manual adjustments.
Precision Alignment: Craftsmen rely on string lines for horizontal straightness and spirit levels for vertical accuracy. Proper "fall" or slope is critical to ensure surface water is channeled correctly toward drainage inlets rather than pooling on the asphalt.
Jointing & Haunching: Once positioned, a "haunch" or concrete backing is poured behind the curb. This structural support prevents the curb from tilting or shifting under the lateral pressure of heavy vehicles or soil expansion.
The Craftsmanship: Achieving a fluid radius on curved corners and maintaining a perfect "shave" (level) across long stretches requires significant experience. It’s a physical task that demands a high level of geometric intuition and manual dexterity.
