Nicolas Roeg made one of the first films of the Australian New Wave with his 1971 classic, Walkabout. Set in the Australian Outback, the film follows two young British children who have found themselves abandoned in the wilderness. Only once they meet a young Aboriginal on his Walkabout do they have any hope of survival, and the film absolutely delivers on the promise of its premise.
