What Is Trade Balance?
The balance of trade (BT) is an economic indicator that tells you whether a country is exporting more than it’s importing — or vice versa. It’s calculated by subtracting imports from exports. A trade surplus occurs when exports exceed imports (bringing currency into the country), while a trade deficit happens when imports exceed exports (leading to currency outflow). The trade balance is closely watched by governments and central banks, as it influences GDP, exchange rates, and economic policy decisions.
