Sight + Sound Bites: Collaboration of Optometry and Ophthalmology

Dr. Finkelstein joined the University of Pittsburgh Department of Ophthalmology as a Clinical Associate Professor in 2021. He currently serves as Executive Vice Chair for Clinical Operations, Chief of Ophthalmology at UPMC Mercy and UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, and Physician Lead for the Department’s Ophthalmic Technician Training Program. He sees patients at the Vision Institute at Mercy and at UPMC Shadyside Pavilion with an emphasis on comprehensive ophthalmology. He is board-certified in ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Allegheny County Medical Society.

Dr. Butts is the Division Chief of the Optometry and Contact Lens Service and Program Director of the Optometry Ocular Disease Residency at the UPMC Vision Institute. She holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where she provides primary eye care and works in association with the Glaucoma Division. Dr. Butts has called Pittsburgh her home since childhood. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Gannon University in Erie, PA. She then took a break from Pennsylvania winters to study at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. She completed her residency training in Ocular Disease at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL. Dr. Butts founded and previously served as the Director of UPMC's Optometry Residency and Externship programs. Dr. Butts was listed in Newsweek as the 28th Optometrist in the Nation 2021 and is the 2018 recipient of the Low Vision Award of Excellence.
