Top shot of country market town - animal pens in empty square. Nice scenic shots of countryside; animals grazing, manor house. Horse led from stable. Animal pens are set up in the square. Countryside view as steam train goes by in far distance. People sweep doorsteps. Woman grocer sets out fruit on outdoor table. Farmers tend machinery. Man walks across the square (he is the commentator and bank manager of the town) and goes into the bank. He chats to tellers inside then goes into office, sits at desk and looks at letters. C/Us of letters asking about loans, overdraughts. He makes telephone call. C/U of book page - 'Questions on Banking Practice'. Teller at counter talks to elderly woman.



Young man comes into bank to open his first account as commentator tells us his story. Shots illustrate how the young man found a farm he wanted to buy, negotiated a loan with the bank manager, courted and got married (small group posing for simple wedding picture - bride in tweed suit), worked hard on the farm - harvesting grain and vegetables, milking cow in dairy, presenting small bag of grain to bank manager having made a success of it. Good footage of farmers at the cattle market in the town. Man writing cheque, leaning on side of truck. Bank workers doing paperwork.



Several shots of meeting in small town hall by National Farmers Union. Natural sound as they discuss milk production and new government legislation. Bank manager deals with queries from farmers in his office by phone and in person. Farmer sections off part of cattle field. Others look at machine that makes winter feed for cattle. Pigs in pen. Bank man drives to meet farmer. The pair go over paperwork at desk. Natural sound as they discuss his £400 loan. They shake hands. More countryside scenes; windmill with cattle, buildings being built or repaired. C/U of hand counting bank notes. Women picking and spraying fruit. General harvest scenes. People at local agricultural show; machinery, sheep, cattle. Farmers watching. C/U of farmer lighting and smoking pipe.
