The clothes we wear cover the body —
but they are not the body itself.

A garment exists on the body,
as a separate structure of its own.

That’s why we start with the body.
To see how patterns act on it,
and how they alter form —
we have to see it with our eyes,
and feel it with our hands.

Only then can we shape it with confidence,
in the direction we intend.
