During World War II, large artillery guns were stationed by the Americans on the Dutch island of Curaçao. The Dutch motherland had fallen into the hands of Germany, leaving Curaçao almost defenseless. The large oil refinery on the island was imperative to the allied fuel supply, making it a strategic target for the German U-boats. 150mm cannons served not only as a deterrent, but actively protected the island, coming into action several times.
In this video Allan van der Ree shares about his finding of the remnants of one of the US bases on Curaçao, after decades of remaining hidden underneath the brush. We take you on a tour of Camp Blauwbaai!
