BMP stands for Best Management Practices, all developed parcels must meet TRPA’s BMP requirements.
The concept behind BMP.
When the land was bare without any structures, the water from rain and snow was naturally distributed throughout the land, and now that there’s a structure it prevents the water from absorbing into the ground, BMP manages the water to make sure it stays on the land and doesn’t run onto the street and into to the city drains. So the goal is to catch the water and keep it on the land.
To catch the water that falls onto the roof and then runs off, we engineer something called The Drip Line Infiltration Trench. A trench is dug along the sides of the house, containment borders are built and filled with drainage rock. This way the water will NOT run off into the street as it gathers, it will fall between rock crevices and absorb into the same ground as it always has before the structure. The same concept is used under the deck.
For the driveway.
something called a Driveway Conveyance swale in engineered, preventing collected driveway water from running off onto the street, it's rather redirected into a sediment trap. For the sediment trap, Dig a hole as specified in the plan, place a filter fabric into the sediment trap, place a sandbag filter at the bottom and fill it with drainage rock.
