Firefighters face a higher risk of skin cancer due to repeated occupational exposures on the job. Early detection saves lives. Know the signs, get checked, and protect yourself on and off duty.
In California, free firefighter skin cancer screenings are provided through the California Firefighter Skin Cancer Coalition, a partnership between Firefighter Cancer Support Network, AV Melanoma Foundation, and CalDerm—focused on early detection and prevention through dermatologist-led screenings.
Nationally, the American Academy of Dermatology Firefighter Skin Cancer Checks Program gives dermatologists the opportunity to support the heroes who protect our communities by providing skin checks to firefighters at elevated occupational risk. In partnership with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network, the goal is to provide 10,000 firefighter skin checks by 2026—and your help is needed to reach it.
