Most women with ovarian cancer are diagnosed after the cancer has already spread to other organs when the cure rate is low. Much effort has been applied to improving the early detection of ovarian cancer. Elizabeth Swisher, Associate Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology reviews the evidence and methods for current and future technologies for ovarian cancer screening. She reviews risk factors and identification of women at high risk of ovarian cancer and describes novel hypotheses for the origin of ovarian cancer that may impact future prevention strategies.
