In software testing, a "bug" and a "defect" are often used interchangeably to refer to an error or problem in the software. However, there is a subtle difference between the two terms.
A "bug" typically refers to an error or mistake in the code that causes the software to behave in an unintended or unexpected way. Bugs can be caused by a variety of factors, such as coding errors, misinterpretation of requirements, or lack of testing.
A "defect," on the other hand, refers to a deviation from the expected or desired behavior of the software. A defect is a difference between the actual and the expected behavior of the software. Defects can be caused by bugs, but they can also be caused by other factors such as incorrect or incomplete requirements, design flaws, or poor user experience.
