Albert (Jack Howarth) bores Ena (Violet Carson) and Minnie (Margot Bryant) rigid by reciting war poetry. Hilda (Jean Alexander) is excited for her trip to Paris but is unaware Stan (Bernard Youens) fears flying. Ken (Bill Roache) meets Mrs. Bates (Barbara Knox) and reassures her about Terry's (John Barratt) potential. Alan (Alan Browning) secretly meets up with ex-wife Laura (Stella Tanner). She blames him for the way son Mark (Nicholas Jones) is behaving but promises there are no strings attached to the loan to buy the garage. Annie (Doris Speed) is overjoyed when Billy (Kenneth Farrington) agrees to join the Rovers' staff on a more permanent basis.
