We started our journey early in the morning from Kalam Bazar, heading back toward home — but with one mission: to explore a valley that many have talked about lately — Taip Banda.
Located around 12.5 km from Mankyal Bazar, halfway between Kalam and Bahrain, this valley had become famous recently, especially due to the hype on social media by a few vloggers, including Jamshed Burki.
We crossed Mankyal, then reached the last local village called Barai, which is also the gateway for Chukail Banda. From there, we continued to Jabba, the last point accessible by jeep. After that, it’s a 2.5 to 2.7 km trek to reach Taip Banda — either on foot, bike, or horseback.
I chose my bike, trusting my off-road and high-altitude experience. And yes — we made it.
But what I saw at Taip Banda left me disappointed. The hype didn’t match reality. Trash was scattered around. Locally installed tents had taken over the natural view. Biscuit wrappers, chips bags, plastic — all signs of careless tourism.
I’ve visited dozens of valleys across Swat, Chitral, and Gilgit, but this is the first time I’m not recommending a destination. Taip Banda might be okay for locals, but for travelers coming from Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, or other far cities with limited time — this is not worth it.
Still, every journey teaches something. This was mine.
