John Bubbles (real name John Sublett) was one of the great tap dance innovators. He combined traditional tap dance with Jazz rhythms to create a style of tap dance that became known as 'Rhythm Tap". Early on he teamed up with Ford Lee "Buck" Washington to form the song and dance team of "Buck & Bubbles" and they played clubs, vaudeville and movies for many years. John was also the original "Sportin' Life" in George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess" in 1935. It is also claimed that he gave tap lessons to Fred Astaire in the early 1920's and that Fred called him the best tap dancer of his generation.
