This was once the site of Saunders-Roe factory which converted US made Catalina flying boats and was staffed by nearly 2000 people in its 1940s heyday.
After the war had ended, it was remained Saunders Shipyard, building the world's first aluminium bodied P1602 Motor Torpedo boat. The company in 1968 then became part of Laird Ltd and spent it's latter years making a range of products from Cuban Bus bodies, air bridges for international airports and the Centaur; a half track vehicle based off the Series 2 Land Rover.
The site was finally closed in 1997, and has remained empty ever since, except for occasional use as storage for various items. Outside it still retains the look it held in the 1940s where it played a role in the war effort.
