YouTube Video Script Writing. In THIS video I will show you how I use my YouTube script template to give my videos structure AND I’ll share some pro tips that you can use to give your videos an all round pro feel.
My name is Peter and THIS video is part of an ongoing series where I show you ways to improve your YouTube video production and marketing activities.
What you'll need for THIS video
1. An hour
2. Document editor
Here are 7 reasons Why I use script for my YouTube videos.
1. I use a script to stay on topic rather than rambling on
2. Make sure that I REMEMBER to cover all the important points
3. It’s part of my video planning process
4. It’s a great way for me to practice and present confidently on camera
5. I have all the titles and other text assets that I will use during post production
6. Script also becomes the description and closed captions for my YouTube video
7. Save time
My YouTube video script template is divided into 5 sections.
1. Metadata
2. Opening
3. Primer
4. Body
5. Closing
Metadata:
is where I record the keywords or longtail keywords that I wish to rank this video.
I should point out that by now I would have performed some keyword research to discover which keywords have the lowest competition and high average monthly searches.
Series Name
A Cable or free-to-air TV channel contains different shows and in the same way my YouTube channel consists of different shows focused on various entrepreneurial topics. I record which show or series this particular script belongs to. For example, this video you're currently watching belongs to the, "Improve your YouTube Production and Marketing" series.
Tags
I also note down all the tags that I will include in this youtube video. These will be the tags that I will use when I upload the final video to YouTube.
Opening section:
is where I open my YouTube video by asking a simple question that I will answer later in the Body section.
After the intro question I will welcome my viewer and tell them exactly what value they will get from me by watching this video.
Then the video will cut away by playing a 3 second branding clip. This will end the Opening section of the script.
Primer
The next section is the Primer where I inform the viewer a little about this video series and the value it gives to them.
Related Videos
Next I remind the viewer of the first and previous episodes of this video series and links to those videos.
Requirements
Next I discuss any requirements needed for this video especially important if my video is a “how to” or workshop. I usually cover things like how much time the viewer should put aside, and other important tools and stuff.
The Related Videos and Requirements are optional and may not apply to and appear on all my videos
Next I’ll do a revision or recap the important points from the previous video of this series if it is relevant to the current video. This will also end the Primer section.
Body
This will contain the main high value content of the video. This is where I answer the simple question that I asked at the Introduction.
Recap / Takeaways
After delivering the main content I will do a recap and discuss some takeaways for about 30 seconds. This will end the Body section.
Closing
The next section is Closing. I start to wrap up this video by
Providing show notes and my contact details
Teasing the next video in the series to get them coming back for more
Thanking viewer for their time
Mention my branding tagline
Contact
The next section is the Contact section which includes the links for my viewers to get in touch with me.
Credits
Last but not least is the Credits section. Here I give credit to assets that I’ve used in my video like images, music, b roll, and anyone who helped me with this particular video production. Just like the Contact section I don’t read out this information out on camera. It servers as a place for me to record and also use this information as the text at the end of my video as I roll the credits.

In the next video I'll talk about why you should organise your YouTube videos into playlists and how it helps to improve something called Session Watch Time. Improve this if you want YouTube to promote your videos so they get more views and increase subscribers to your channel.
Thanks for watching. Subscribe for more videos to improve your value, income and success as an entrepreneur.
