Описание: The Otjozondjupa Education Directorate has reassured parents of the safety of learners.

This follows after a teacher at Wilhelm Nortier Primary School in Grootfontein was arrested last year in connection with an alleged sexual assault involving school-going boys.

The Otjozondjupa education director, Gerhard Ndafenongo, expressed shock and condemned the alleged incident.

"As a region, we are aware that there have been reported cases related to child abuse at one of our schools. However, we want to assure parents that the Directorate and the Ministry at large have taken the necessary steps to strengthen security and ensure the safety of learners in all schools across the country, particularly at the school and in the area where this incident occurred, to make sure that it does not repeat itself."

The teacher, who is still in custody, has since resigned from the teaching profession, while preliminary investigations continue at the school.

The director has confirmed that they have taken the necessary precautions to ensure the protection of learners.

"We condemn what happened. We discourage such acts, call for calm, and urge educators and all employees of the Ministry of Education who work closely with children to uphold the highest standards of morality, integrity, and professionalism in handling learners."

Ndafenongo further stated that all affected learners are receiving the psychosocial support and appealed to the Grootfontein community to allow the law to take its course.

The suspect will make his first appearance in the Grootfontein Magistrates' Court on the 29th of this month
