They discuss the eerie Swedish culture of silence that promotes conformity and collectivism over individualism. They also debunk the myths that many Democratic Socialists in the US have about Socialism in Sweden. Democratic candidates like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have always extolled the virtues of democratic socialism of Scandinavian countries like Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Henrik Jönsson tells the real story of Sweden and how it’s wealth was created by laissez-faire policies that were initiated after WWII and that Sweden’s large welfare state actually forced Sweden to have to devalue their currency in the 1990s and 30% of wealth was lost in the process. Aron and Henrik also discuss the real world outcomes of Sweden’s gender equity goals and its effect on young children The goal being to have 50/50 male and female representation in businesses, schools and government. Aron and Henrik point out that to achieve these goals children are sometimes encouraged to suppress their natural behaviors. This policy also distorts hiring practices to aim for 50/50 representations instead of simply going for the most qualified candidates. Henrik also shares a story of how Jordan Peterson was on a Swedish talk show discussing that scientific studies have shown that some of the expected behaviors of boys and girls is related to biology, and how he was dismissed by Swedish politicians. They also discuss the increased crime and violence in Malmö, Sweden and its link to Sweden’s immigration policy over the last decade. According to Aron and Henrik Sweden has not made a real attempt to help refugees assimilate to Swedish culture and have now created a more segregated society with a new immigrant underclass. They also share why they think the US has been better about being able to assimilate immigrants into its society due to its focus on individualism as opposed to collectivism.
