👀 WHAT'S IN THIS VIDEO?
That is the statement that captured what many residents of Left Hall, Beeston Spring (Westmoreland) have been living with since Hurricane Melissa passed through their community.
On New Year’s Day, we returned to the area, not so much to distribute food or building materials, but to help residents begin reclaiming something just as important: their identity.
Many families lost birth certificates, passports, and other vital documents when their homes were damaged or destroyed. Without these papers, everyday life becomes extremely difficult - accessing services, travelling, applying for assistance, or even proving who you are.
This special feature documents a special community outreach, made possible through collaboration with:
PICA (Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency)
Representatives from the Registrar General’s Department (RGD)
Fellow Justices of the Peace
& A professional photographer who assisted with required photos
Throughout the day, residents were guided through the application process for birth certificates and passport-related services, while receiving encouragement and reassurance during a very difficult period of rebuilding.
Earlier videos showed the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa, followed by relief efforts including food, plywood, zinc, and solar lantern distributions. This outreach represents another important step in recovery — helping people restore dignity, access, and opportunity.
While much has been done, the work is not finished. Many families are still without proper shelter and continue to need support.
