Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has reacted to an Indian Express report that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections on 14 occasions over 10 months regarding aspects of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Yadav questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and alleged that the reported objections raise concerns about the institution’s impartiality. He further claimed that governments formed during this period could be constitutionally questionable. The Indian Express report says the two Election Commissioners objected to issues involving new voter registration, deletion of names and the handling of electoral-roll systems. The Election Commission has maintained that differing views and written observations are part of normal deliberations within a multi-member body and that its final decisions have been unanimous.
