What are the biggest security risks facing the EU in 2026?
Based on a large-scale survey of European foreign policy experts, the Global Risks to the EU 2026 survey identifies the most serious threats confronting Europe in the year ahead:
➡️ Disruptive hybrid attacks on EU critical infrastructure
➡️ Russia’s continued aggression against Europe and its neighbourhood
➡️ A potential end to US security commitments to Europe
➡️ A military conflict between China and Taiwan
Conducted at the European University Institute’s Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, the survey is a joint project with the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), and the European Initiative for Security Studies (EISS).
In this event, we present the survey’s findings and discuss what they mean for Europe’s security, deterrence, and strategic choices in 2026.
