From the SPER archives. A 16mm film reel of raw news footage documenting the arrival of the Vintage Train into Rockdale Station on 6th February 1971 (not 1970 - title card in error), when the then Premier of NSW, Sir Robert Askin, opened the Rockdale War Memorial Garden at corner of the Princes Highway and The Seven Ways, adjacent to the Rockdale Hotel.
The Memorial is dedicated in memory of the men and women of The Municipality of Rockdale who sacrificed their lives for their country in the First and Second World Wars and subsequent campaigns. The site was once the 'loop' for the trolleybuses returning to Kogarah from Rockdale, which utilised much of the former steam tram line.
Digitised in 2K by Bowline Media and funded by the 2023 Transport Heritage Grants Program, a NSW Government funded program, administered by the Royal Australian Historical Society, with the support of Transport Heritage NSW.
