Описание: The ladder of love or desire that Plato presents us with in the Symposium is a kind of proto-phenomenology: it shows the psyche rising to a transcendence of the subject/object divide through progressive stages of reflection on the self and the object of desire. Because it’s a rational process, it can seem as though there’s an inevitability to it, and so Plato might seem to be saying that human desire will always live itself out for the best, that love will find a way. But he isn’t exactly, and that points to something important in the psyche.
