Today we'll take a look at the journey of making a UI system in my game engine. It was hard. I knew that UI isn't really easily achievable with ECS. Since ECS is really linear, it likes lists of things and looping over them. UI is very hierarchical, it benefits from having a parent/children tree where the parent influences the children.
I don't know if my solution is perfect, it definitely isn't pure ECS, but I think that with how young ECS is, maybe we shouldn't just simply implement it and then use it for everything, I'm not saying that I'm making ECS+ or anything like that, but maybe someone will find my solution helpful. I'm still learning and discovering that I can just build on top of ECS anything I want.
