Why Jesus failed to stop the sack of Christian Rome, the capital of a (now Christian) Empire. The city was sacked by the Goths in 410CE. St. Augustine of Hippo in his most well known book 'The City of God against the pagans' tries to answer the issue of why Rome fell when it was in the Christian God's favour to keep the empire strong for the benefit of Christianity. The pagans of that time had blamed the fall of Rome on the decline of worship of the pagan deities and the loss of pagan values. Augustine tries to refute their arguments while criticising the worship of the pagan deities and their failure to protect Rome and its armies at various times in history. The video is the first part of a series of videos on 'City of God against the pagans'
